Microdermabrasion Treatments (From £60.00)
The natural ageing process, combined with exposure to the harmful rays of the sun and lifestyle habits, can wreak havoc on the skin’s condition. The skin can take on a dull or ashen look when it is not properly taken care of, resulting in an appearance that looks more mature – and at times unhealthy as well. Microdermabrasion is one of the cosmetic treatments offered by Woodbury Dental and Laser Clinic to improve the condition of the skin, to achieve a more youthful and vibrant appearance.
What is Microdermabrasion?
Also known as microderm, Microdermabrasion is a general term that encompasses the application of tiny rough grains to slough away the outermost layer of the skin. There are various treatments and products under the Microdermabrasion umbrella, including medical procedures, salon treatments and creams and scrubs that can be applied in the privacy of one’s home. However, it is still best to get the Microdermabrasion treatment done by a trained professional in Kent, to eliminate the risks of adverse effects on the treated areas.
Microdermabrasion treatments offer less aggressive approach to skin condition improvements than dermabrasion; this treatment makes use of a minimally abrasive instrument to gently buff the skin, to remove the thick outermost layer. The Microdermabrasion treatment is used to stimulate new skin growth, and also helps to thicken collagen to achieve a younger looking complexion. This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat skin damage caused by over exposure to the sun, light scarring, discoloration, and can even be used to address problems concerning stretch marks.
Conditions Improved with Microdermabrasion
- Sun Damaged Skin – Skin that has been damaged by the sun’s harmful rays can be improved with a Microdermabrasion treatment. Spots and other problems caused by the sun’s rays can be eliminated, and new skin will be produced to achieve a much better complexion.
- Fine lines and wrinkles – Fine lines and wrinkles are addressed with a Microdermabrasion treatment, so that collagen production is encouraged; this results to the wrinkled and lined layer being replaced with a new layer of skin that is smoother and younger looking.
- Patches of Dry or Oily Skin – Dry and oily skin patches can be improved with Microdermabrasion treatments, which promote the production of collagen to encourage new skin to replace the dry and rough skin patches that have been removed.
- Acne prone skin – Acne prone skin is improved by a Microdermabrasion
- Whiteheads
- Blackheads
- Superficial age spots and Hyperpigmentation
The Microdermabrasion Procedure
There are two types of Microdermabrasion treatments. The first approach involves the use of a hand-held device that streams tiny crystals across the area of the skin that needs to be improved. The attached vacuum simultaneously suctions the exfoliating crystals back into the machine, along with the loosened or dead skin. The second and newer approach uses a diamond-tip wand that is gently moved across the skin to exfoliate dead skin cells.
Each treatment can be finished in about a half hour. During the Microdermabrasion treatment, the patient may feel a mild scratching as the Microdermabrasion machine or device removes the dead skin cells. A vibrating motion resembling a massage may also be felt during the treatment, and there is also a suction mechanism to lift off the dead skin.
There is no down time or recovery period necessary after a Microdermabrasion procedure. After the treatment, the physician or cosmetic practitioner may recommend the use of a special facial product or moisturiser to make the results longer lasting, and more enhanced. The patient will also be advised to avoid exposure to the sun’s harmful rays, since the skin will still be fragile at this stage.
Microdermabrasion is not recommended for people who have: extremely sensitive skin, bacterial infections, vascular conditions like rosacea, diabetes, skin inflammation, lack of tactile sensation, keloid scarring, cuts and abrasions; it is also not recommended for individuals who have undergone a Botox treatment in the last 72 hours. Other contraindications to microdermabrasion include acne, sunburn, and viral infections like herpes simplex.
